Philippians 1:1-11; Christians are slaves of Christ; humble, sacrificial and radically diverse. Paul expects that the experience of the grace of salvation will change our priorities and focus us on Jesus' return. Genuine Christians will persevere to the end - it is Jesus work in us from first to last. Faith which alone saves is never alone, but is accompanied by the fruit of Jesus working in our life. Our prayers, like Paul's, should be characterised by concern for people's sanctification.

Daniel 11:1-12:13; We can only persevere in our lives if we have a real hope to cling to. While Daniel is told that suffering will continue for God's people, the time of the end is in God's hand. He is in control and will bring all enemies to account, including death itself. Our hope is in the resurrection.

Daniel 10:1-11:1; Daniel 10 gives us a glimpse into the spiritual world and warfare that is all around us. Daniel is struck powerless when he sees the reflected glory and majesty of God. We are weak and we are called to do something we can't do. The life changing effect of the gospel is God's work. We should: 1. Mediate on the majesty of God, 2. Mediate on the efficacy of the gospel and 3. Be people of prayer.

Daniel 9:1-27; Jeremiah 25:11-12; We should be faithful in reading God's word and in prayer - Daniel had a lot of responsibility but he made time to study the bible which naturally led to prayer. We need to find hope in God's promises and truly repent and ask forgiveness for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. As we see in Daniel God's plan holds so much more than all we can ask or think.

But then he would have robbed himself of the help and comfort from God and robbed God of the glory of being the source of his excellent spirit. A suffering Christian knows that our present sufferings will fade in the light of the glory that is to be revealed to us in an eternity with God. We are all sinners saved by grace and God's grace is enough to save those who persecute Christians. We should desire and pray for their salvation.
