Psalm 31:17-24; In the midst of suffering we look for justice and hope and they can only be found when we place this longing in God's hands. If we trust that God is good and powerful when everything else seems contrary we become a testimony to his goodness.

    Look Upward and Outward

Psalm 31:9-16; Trusting in God does not mean our circumstances will all be good, but God has promised to be near. He is personal, in control, faithful and loving. Sometimes we are broken so that we might repent and know joy. In difficulty, we need to look up to God and outward rather than inward. It is not all about us.

Matthew 13:44-50; Put your faith in Jesus and treasure him. Jesus is the merchant that sought us. He has done all to purchase us. There will be a judgement; some in the church will be shown to have been working to please Jesus rather than trusting and treasuring him.

Matthew 1:21-23; We should focus on Christ at CHRISTMAS. Rather than focus on the traditional MAS (M - Materialism, Adornments, Stuffing), we should focus on the MAS of the Miraculous birth, Awesome Announcements by Angels and Salvation for us. Knowing Christ is more than an occasional acknowledgement, rather it requires hard work in his word.

Jesus - God Working Through Weakness

Hebrews 2:14-18; God works in weakness. Jesus ministry was not a success story (from the world’s point of view), but it was God’s greatest success. We should not fear it nor look down on those who are weak - just as God used Jesus weakness, he uses our weakness – it shows his glory. It is God’s strength not ours that is important. God has experienced weakness and understands ours. Humble yourself before God for thinking that God needed you and for valuing strength and success. Why did Jesus come as a man? He came to die and to rescue a people, to love, to serve and to identify with them.

    Jesus - God With Us

John 1:1-18; Jesus is not just a good man: his ...

John 1:1-18; Jesus is not just a good man: his divinity is necessary for salvation and revelation. The One in whom is life gave his life to others. If Jesus was not God he could not give his life to us. Jesus came to us and made God known to the world. He is the radiance of the Father, in whom all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell (Hebrews 1:1-3; Colossians 1:19; John 14:9). We do not have to try to figure out what God is like, just look at Jesus. Jesus is the only way to salvation all other ways are dead ends. For he alone is the Light though we look to other things hoping that they are the light they cannot give salvation. Jesus is God – He is Glorious.

Jesus - God’s Plan for Redemption

    Luke 3:23-38; Genesis 1:1, 3:14-15, 12:1-2, 22:15-18; 2 Samuel 7:11b-16; ...

Luke 3:23-38; Genesis 1:1, 3:14-15, 12:1-2, 22:15-18; 2 Samuel 7:11b-16; God is a worker and always has been. He built the world and man and continues to be involved, building a people for himself. God has plans, promising a future saviour to Adam, Abraham and David. Jesus is the fulfilment of these promises. God draws near to us in Jesus. Jesus is the head of a new team; Adam is the head of the old team. Jesus is God for everyone who calls on him. God has a grand missionary plan to spread the gospel.

Romans 10:13-17; Salvation is for all who call on the name of the Lord. They need to believe – unless they hear they have no chance to know him and are guilty before God. Someone needs to go. We have been commissioned by Jesus to preach the Word.

Philippians 4:10-23; The passage shows 4 benefits that come when we partner in the gospel with missionaries 1. It helps support them and meet their needs 2. Generous giving is a demonstration of God working in your life 3. It is worship pleasing to God 4. Supporting gospel missions is participating in gospel missions, making it possible for people to hear and be saved. We should be a missionary or support a missionary.
