Part I of a two part series on the history ...
Part I of a two part series on the history of Clermont, Georgia. The city of Clermont, Georgia was chartered in 1913. According to early town records a church was built in 1851 about one-half mile north of the present Concord, meaning “harmony” church building. This title was to be indicative of the spirit of the community for many years to come. On May 6, 2013 Clermont celebrated its 100 years of being known as the small town where the beautiful mountains begin. As part of the May 12, 2015 Good Old Days of Clermont celebration many of the established residents of Clermont, Mrs. Ellen Rogers (88), Mrs. Lenore Meaders Chambers (90), Rex Farmer (82), Stuart Staton ( 72) and Mrs. Emma Jean Nix Oliver (77) gathered together at the newly renovated Clermont Hotel to recount their years of growing up and living in the small town, when times were slower, life was a bit sweeter, and neighbors were like family.
