GLOBAL 3000 – DW-TV’s new globalisation magazine looks at the issues that are moving us today, and shows how people are living with the opportunities and risks of globalisation. GLOBAL 3000 gives globalisation a face. During the Kosovo War nine years ago, many of the people from Pristina fled abroad. One of them is Naim Bunjuka. Naim Bunjaku is a radio host, journalist, and singer who lives and works in Pristina, Kosovo. We asked him what globalization means to him, what he hopes the future will bring, and what keeps him up at night.

Can the world live without vultures? Unfortunately, that's a question that must be asked in 2015, because in Europe, Africa and India, these carrion-eating birds of prey are dying out. 80 percent of vultures have disappeared from some areas of Africa alone.If that continues, an entire species that is enormously important for keeping ecosystems in balance will soon be lost. Vultures also fall victim to the rampant illegal hunting of elephants and rhinoceros. Circling vultures betray poaching activity to nature reserve rangers, so poachers lay poison bait to kill the birds. In addition, many vultures die in the name of traditional African medicine - they're said to have magical properties. In that way a spiral of killing is created that bird protection organizations are trying to stop.

Around two dozen environmentalists have set up camp in Hambach forest to thwart efforts to clear the centuries-old trees. The RWE mining company owns the land, and wants to access the valuable coal buried underneath. Local mines owned by RWE produce around 40 million tons of brown coal each year. The company wants to expand the mines deep into Hambach forest. Environmental activists are holding their ground to halt those plans. They dig tunnel traps, chain themselves to trees, and sabotage diggers. They want to protect the forest and also question Germany's reliance on CO2-intensive brown coal for power generation.
